Who would have thought the tragic death of a colleague would inspire a vision of hope.
The hope that manifested from this vision was a group called to action. Mary Ann Williams was the Secretary of the National Association of Blacks In Criminal Justice (NABCJ) and Kay Coulson was the Assistant Secretary. Mary Ann Williams was a woman of vision and determination who died unexpectedly in 2003. Her death became the core of the life she lived. It was her generosity, kindness, and love for mankind that became the motivating drive for the birth of n-ACTION Family Network.
Kay Coulson met with six women in La Mirada, California to discuss the growing rate of incarceration among female offenders and the impact on the children “left behind.”
During this historic meeting, it was determined there was an overwhelming need to identify and find viable solutions to one of the nation’s leading problems (female incarceration) impacting the family. These six women became the chartered members and pledged “A Commitment To Improve Our Nation...to take ACTION!
n-ACTION Family Network was officially incorporated on February 23, 2004.

WOMEN IN TRANSITION SUPPORT - WITS
As a result of the rapid increase of incarceration among female offenders, n-ACTION Family Network developed an effective Pre-Release and Post-Release Re-Entry Program. Our program addresses the need of those incarcerated and empowers them to make better decisions, choices, and take control of their life.
The primary purpose of this program is to seek solutions to help reduce recidivism, promote self-sufficiency, and strengthen the family. Because it is estimated that 650,000 inmates are released from prison every year and of that number 67% are re-arrested with three years. Therefore, n-ACTION Family Network has taken a pro-active position to give this population a “Second Chance” and assist them in making a successful transition back to their community.
WITS offers a 16 Week life changing experience. It is structured in a two (8 week cycle) format. It is currently being conducted in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department, at the Century Regional Detention Facility, Lynwood, CA. If you have clients you would like to introduce or recommend for the n-ACTION Experience, please contact us at our toll free number: 1 (866) 299-8817.

S.T.A.R.S. - STRIVING TO ACHIEVE THE RIGHT STUFF
Research shows that there is a positive relationship between youth who participate in after school or mentoring programs and positive results associated with academic achievements, improved attendance, and positive peer relationships. For that reason, n-ACTION Family Network (a non-profit/community-based organization) has implemented supportive services to offer a helping hand to those non-profit organizations that provides youth outreach programs.
S.T.A.R.S. (Striving To Achieve The Right Stuff) provides intervention, mentoring, enrichment opportunities to “At-Risk” and economically challenged students.
As a STARS Outreach Component, n-ACTION Family Network has pledged support to recruit a minimum of 100 donations annually to support the homeless students in the surrounding communities.
