Research shows that those youth who participate in after-school or mentoring programs show higher academic achievements, improved attendance, and positive peer relationships.
Poverty data reveal that educational attainment is the single, greatest protective factor against a lifetime in poverty. Families whose head of household has a Bachelor’s degree or higher have poverty rate of 4%, while families whose head of household did not graduate from high school have a poverty rate of 24%.
For that reason, n-ACTION Family Network’s Striving to Achieve the Right Stuff (S.T.A.R.S.) initiated the following services to promote education to at-risk and underserved students:
S.T.A.R.S. offers a helping hand by providing gift cards to students considered homeless under the McKinney-Vento Assistance Act by supporting both the student and family.
S.T.A.R.S. also provides scholarships to a high school graduate or post-secondary student who has exhibited academic and scholastic excellence. These candidates are active in their community while exhibiting traits of and displaying acts of humanitarian efforts.
How You Can Help You can support our children by donating to our S.T.A.R.S., which provides gift cards to homeless students and their families, or donate to our scholarship opportunities, which will assist a graduating senior or post-secondary student who meets the financial need and criteria. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, so all contributions are tax deductible.
